2026 Library Lions

Each year, The New York Public Library honors several distinguished individuals for outstanding achievements in their respective fields of arts, culture, letters and scholarship by naming them Library Lions. Previous honorees include Margaret Atwood, Ina Garten, Jhumpa Lahiri, Spike Lee, President Nelson Mandela, Steve Martin, Shonda Rhimes, Zadie Smith, Steven Spielberg, Bruce Springsteen, Gloria Steinem, Darren Walker, Oprah Winfrey, and many more.
On November 2, 2026, we look forward to inducting our newest class of distinguished Lions—celebrated poet and musician Joy Harjo, prolific storyteller and literary champion Stephen King, acclaimed writer and historian George Packer, lifestyle expert and cultural icon Martha Stewart, and distinguished novelist Jesmyn Ward. The full class of 2026 Lions will be announced soon.
